No Sales Experience? No Problem – How Grace Went from the Medical Field to SaaS Sales
Grace Martin’s Aspireship Success Story

Everyone has the potential for sales. There isn’t a career background, or lack thereof, that we’ve come across limiting someone’s chances for breaking in. Even those who haven’t worked in a formal business setting make for great SaaS sales reps.
We’ve helped educators, mothers reentering the workforce, people who worked in construction and landscaping, as well as those in the medical sector, successfully land a new role.
Just because you’ve always been in one job doesn’t mean you are officially stuck there, nothing is impossible. This brings us to today’s Aspireship success story. Grace found the strength to change her path early on in life which is very admirable.
Grace’s background was in the healthcare industry having worked as a Medical Assistant at a dermatology practice for 4 years. She even had her sights set on becoming a nurse –but realized over time that she was not as passionate about nursing as she had been at the beginning when first applying for nursing school.
Grace began exploring other career options. Luckily, her sister had gone through Aspireship’s SaaS Sales Foundations course. Upon recommendation, Grace signed up and quickly got started.
We recently had the opportunity to talk with Grace about her experience completing SaaS Sales Foundations and were really curious to hear what she loved about sales, especially coming from an entirely different field.
Some Background on Grace Leading Up To Aspireship

Aspireship: Prior to the Aspireship course, what was your background in SaaS sales?
Grace: None! I had spent the last 4 years working as a Medical Assistant for a dermatology practice, and had even been accepted to a nursing program that I was planning to start soon. I had zero background in SaaS sales.
Aspireship: How did you come across Aspireship?
Grace: My sister works in SaaS. She had found the course and decided to enroll, then recommended I sign up as well.
Aspireship: How were you spending your time prior to finding the course?
Grace: I was trying to gain skills by reading sales books and listening to podcasts.
Aspireship: If you were job seeking, what was that process previously like?
Grace: I applied for dozens of companies but wasn’t having any luck because of my lack of experience in SaaS. I got response emails that simply said, “we have decided not to move forward.”
On Learning SaaS (Software as a Service) Sales
Aspireship: What surprised you the most about the course and content?
Grace: I was surprised at how well it flowed. I liked that the curriculum broke sales down so simply!

Aspireship: How did you manage the completion of the course and assignments?
Grace: I set aside time to watch the videos and complete the assignments each night, after I got off work, before I started winding down for the night.
Aspireship: What was your favorite take away from the course?
Grace: Several things! THE COMMUNITY would definitely be my number 1! It was great to have such a supportive group of people behind me every step of the way. Second, the personalized assistance and the interview tips and tricks greatly helped.
Aspireship: How helpful was Aspireship’s job placement?
Grace: The job placement was very helpful! Upon graduation, I was immediately presented with job opportunities and interviews.
“I was able to transfer my empathy and listening skills and now, I’m officially a BDR!”

On Other Interests Outside of SaaS

Aspireship: Outside of work, what hobbies do you enjoy?
Grace: I enjoy fishing and hunting because it puts sustainable food on my table. I also enjoy hiking and paddleboarding, anything to keep me outdoors!
Aspireship: Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Grace: I so appreciate the whole experience provided by the Aspireship team. Everything from the curriculum to the recruiting was top notch! I was able to gain knowledge that made me feel confident as I entered the world of SaaS sales, and they provided me with the resources to nail my interviews. They genuinely care about each person’s success. I was matched with an awesome company and couldn’t be happier!
