Allow your people some space to make mistakes.
If I hear “he/she should be caring about this business as much as I do” after an employee has been there all of 2 weeks, I’m going to scream.
This is YOUR business. Of course you LOVE it.
And YES, your employees should care about your business.
YES they should represent it and you well.
BUT they WILL step inas they learn the ropes.
And when you think you’ve been clear, be CLEARER.
If you see something concerning, don’t wait.
Set expectations, encourage, and communicate when there are areas of opportunity.
Be specific and explicit as you give them props about the things they’re doing well.
Being new is tough.
Leading well is tough.
Allow for a little wiggle room on both sides.
